Bernstein and Tilson Thomas founded the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan in the summer of 1990. He was already suffering from the lung disease at that time. Bernstein died 3 months later after this first Festival rehearsal and performance.

First thing come to my mind is : The Japanese were so rich in the 80s, they could afford to tape everything !

Since it happened in Japan, let me ask one more : Do you have any Asahina video ? I was listening to one of his last Bruckner 7 CD this month, and it was perfect, perfect conducting, perfect orchestral execution and benefit of modern Japanese hi-fi recording.

My heartiest thanks for this document of Lenny. I am a fan since I first heard West Side Story in the West End in 1958 [London cast] I was only 9.... so this has been a life long quest.... I could ask for nothing better than this to start my New Year. Puck!
